Lupino Goes Without Points at Lommel

The Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki team had a forgettable weekend at Lommel in Belgium. Only Alessandro Lupino flew the team flag at the event, and he struggled to find his rhythm on the heavy sandy circuit. This, coupled to the extreme heat, turned the event into a battle of survival for many riders.

Lupino was 18th in qualifying training, and looked good in the first heat, slotting into a closely-fought contest for positions 8 to 14. He crashed hard, though, and was forced to retire with bent handlebars. At the start of the second heat, he got caught up in the melee and dropped to the lower positions. He struggled to find his rhythm on the notoriously difficult track, and finished 26th, which meant that the team went away from the event without having added to their points tally.

Lupino will have the opportunity to show his mettle again at the Swiss GP at Frauenfeld in two weeks’ time.
