VLAANDEREN WORDT ZEVENDE IN DE EINDSTAND VAN HET WERELDKAMPIOENSCHAP MXGP
Het Gebben van Venrooy Yamaha team reisde naar Turkije voor de laatste wedstrijd van het wereldkampioenschap MXGP. Deze wedstrijd werd verreden op het beton harde circuit van Afyonkarahisar. Calvin Vlaanderen was gemotiveerd om het seizoen op sterke wijze af te sluiten.
In de eerste manche pakte Vlaanderen een goede start maar verloor in de beginfase een aantal posities omdat het tempo gelijk heel hoog lag. CV10 had een aantal ronden nodig om het juiste ritme in handen te krijgen. Hij vond deze in combinatie met een aantal goede lijnen waardoor hij na een aantal inhaalmanoeuvres op een negende plaats over de finish wist te komen.
De tweede manche verliep niet volgens plan. Na een matige start was Vlaanderen zich aan het opwerken naar voren. Hij reed op een negende plaats totdat hij ten val kwam. Omdat hij na de valpartij dizzy was, besloot hij om de wedstrijd te verlaten. Ondanks dit werd hij toch nog op een zeventiende plaats geklasseerd en pakte hiermee vier WK punten.
Na een lang en hectisch seizoen kan Gebben van Venrooy Yamaha Racing terug blikken op een succesvol jaar waarin Vlaanderen zevende is geworden in de eindstand.
De volgende wedstrijd op de kalender is de MX of Nations in Amerika waar Vlaanderen TeamNL zal vertegenwoordigen.
VLAANDEREN ROUNDS OFF MXGP SEASEN SECURING SEVENTH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Gebben van Venrooy Yamaha team travelled to Turkey for the final round of the MXGP World Championship which took place at the rock hard Afyonkarahisar circuit. Calvin Vlaanderen was motivated to end the season on a high.
In the first moto, Vlaanderen got a solid start but got pushed back a few positions with the intensity being very high – it took CV10 a few laps to get comfortable. He was able to find a good flow and find some good lines to make a couple of passes to finish a solid ninth.
The second moto and the final MXGP race of the season didn’t go according to plan. After an average start, Vlaanderen was working his way through the pack and got himself up to ninth before taking a crash. After feeling dizzy it was decided to pull out from the race, but he still classified seventeenth to secure some points.
After a long and hectic season, it was a successful one for the team with Vlaanderen securing seventh in the championship standings.
The next race on the agenda will be the Motocross Des Nations when Vlaanderen will represent the Netherlands at RedBud on the 24th and 25th of September.
Calvin Vlaanderen (12th overall): Not my best day at the office. In the first moto, I had a good start but got pushed back on the first lap, picked up the pace halfway and felt good but ran out of tear offs so couldn’t attack the last couple minutes. The second moto was not the best start, but I felt good and was riding well fighting inside the top ten. Unfortunately, I put it down and decided to pull off because I was feeling dizzy. I am happy to achieve my goal and get top seven in the championship. It was a great season with the whole team and I can’t thank them enough for everything they do.
